Dance System selects his 10 favorite Big Beach Boutique tracks

UK club music pioneer and scene stalwart Dance System (fka L-Vis 1990) shares his festival-ready big banger remix of Fatboy Slim’s old skool anthem, ‘Ya Mama’ – marking 20 years of the epic seaside rave, Big Boutique Beach. The Dance System moniker was born from a love of club culture and the history of house music, and a desire to release no-holds-barred club music without the ego. It’s easy to see why then, for Dance System who gained his early musical education in his native Brighton listening to his teachers (Daft Punk, Armand Van Helden, Fatboy Slim) the remix was a no-brainer. Raw club energy, a pumpin’ bassline, and that signature Dance System filter magic, it’s a hands-in-the-air revamp that brings the classic into fresh 2022 territory.

To celebrate the drop of ‘Fatboy Slim – ‘Ya Mama (Dance System’s Back 2 Boutique mix)’ and his involvement in this year’s edition of the Big Beach Boutique Party, Dance System selects his top 10 Big Beach Boutique tracks:

1. Mighty Dub Katz – It’s Just Another Groove

‘One of my favorite tunes from Norman under his Mighty Dub Katz alias. Definitely a bit of the inspiration for my track with I. JORDAN, ‘Let’s Go’

2. X-Press 2 – Lazy (feat. David Byne) (Norman Cook Remix)

‘Couldn’t get away from the original of this tune when it came out in 2002. First heard Norm drop his remix at Big Beach Boutique and it really got the hairs on the back of my neck standing up when everyone was singing along. Love the bassline and the snooker ball sound FX.’

3. Pizzaman – Trippin’ On Sunshine

‘Huge tune of Norman as Pizzaman. Such a great mix of filters, fun, breaks, rave elements, and that great steel drum hook.’

4. Fatboy Slim – Weapon of Choice (feat. Bootsy Collins) (KiNK Dub)

‘Love this remix from KiNK. The way it builds with the filter on the Hoover synth opening really does something to me.’

5. Fatboy Slim – Everybody Needs A 303

‘Big 303 Big Beat tune from Fatboy’s first album featuring The Big Beat Boutique doorman, Perv, in the video. I used to go to The Boutique at the Concorde 2 religiously in my early days raving in Brighton. I was always a bit start struck and intimidated when I saw Perv at the door. Sadly he passed away recently.’

6. Fatboy Slim – Build It Up, Tear It Down

‘You’ve Come Along Way Baby’ was one of the first albums that really kick-started my obsession with dance music. Was the soundtrack to my summer with my friends in 1998, we listened on loop! Had the pleasure of meeting Norman at Glastonbury this year. Was so nice to finally tell him what an influence he had on me, we had a hug after.. one of those moments you only get at Glasto.’

7. Fatboy Slim – Ya Mama (Dance System’s Back to Boutique Remix)

‘Such an honour to remix Fatboy! With this track, I really wanted to capture the feeling of The Boutique parties and that amazing beach party in 2002. It’s been going off in all my sets this summer!’

8. Camisra – Let Me Show You

‘What a fucking tune! This track always stuck with me after Norman dropped it at Big Beach Boutique, such a highlight. The Dance System project is all about recapturing the energy of the music I used to rave to and what inspired me when I was first starting to DJ. A couple of years ago, I made an edit of this tune with DJ Deeon’s ‘The Freaks’. I play it every set and still works now as it did then.’

9. Groove Armada – Superstylin’ (Dance System Remix)

‘All roads have been leading to the Big Beach Boutique 20th anniversary. Was so happy when I got asked to remix this classic from Norm’s 2002 set. I can’t even describe how good it felt hearing the original on the beach with another 250,000 people. Gonna have to play this version when I hit the seafront stage on the 22nd of July.’

10. Tim Deluxe – Just Won’t Do at Big Beach Boutique

‘What a way to open a set to 250,000 people and get them into the energy right away. ‘Just Won’t Do’ was the song of the summer and I loved how Norman just went there, straight away. I was fucking elected when it dropped, the ecstasy just hit and everything in the world felt so perfect. This set honestly changed my life and Norman’s selection that night is still a real inspiration. I can’t wait to play the 20th anniversary!’
