The legendary, Grammy-nominated Kathy Sledge combines with exciting house duo Operation Funk and acclaimed UK rapper / singer Cassie Rytz to deliver a much-needed burst of sunshine with ‘Could It Be You?’ (John ‘J-C’ Carr Remix), released on Point Blank Recordings on 22 April.

John “J-C” Carr’s Remix of ‘Could It Be You?’ showcases Kathy Sledge’s silky-smooth vocal, alongside Operation Funk’s fusion of soul, funk and vintage house. The remix features rapper / singer Cassie Rytz whose sassy vocal is the perfect addition.

John “J-C” Carr said: “It was an honour and pleasure to have had the opportunity to be involved in the original production of ‘Could It Be You?’ and this creative remix with the legend that is Kathy Sledge! It’s a great track from the Operation Funk gents which inspired the direction for my new version. Huge thanks to Ferocious Talent and Point Blank for introducing the awesomely talented Cassie Rytz who iced this remix cake with her skills!”

Kathy Sledge was the lead singer and a founding member of the iconic Sister Sledge, formed in 1971 with three of her sisters. The siblings achieved international success during the disco era with seminal hits ‘We Are Family’ (Grammy Award nominated for Best R&B Performance), ‘He’s The Greatest Dancer’, ‘Lost In Music’, ‘My Guy’, and ‘Thinking Of You’. Kathy Sledge embarked on a solo career in 1989 with several hits including ‘Take Me Back To Love Again’ (No.1 in 1992). Kathy Sledge has collaborated with electronic artists including Robert Miles, Adam Barta, and Aristofreeks.

Operation Funk is a project dedicated to bringing a unique and new school take on old-school house and soul from the late 80s and 90s. Working in collaboration with influential artists and vocalists. Operation Funk’s mission is to blend that essence of the legendary era with the sound of tomorrow, creating records for all to enjoy.

Cassie Rytz is the real thing. Born and raised in London, she learnt her trade at Soundskool where she was encouraged to hone her skills on the mic. She was discovered after a rapper named Bliss introduced her to A&R people at Ferocious Talent during a Cre8ing Vision Cadet Masterclass. Kwame Kwaten of Ferocious Talent said about Cassie Rytz: “We were taken to meet Cassie and it was pretty instant. She started to rap on the spot, and you could just feel that this was a person capable of great things. She was shy and also scarily young at the time (17 years old) but what came out of her mouth was the purest fire lyrically. Straight away on her 1st release you could see people liked her passion. She was just true to herself.”

UK-based producer, remixer, engineer and multi-instrumentalist, John “J-C” Carr is one of the most talented and sought-after people on the scene while amassing an impressive list of discography credits. With over 30 million streams of his music, Carr has worked on popular releases and hits for the likes of Zayn, Sia, U2, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Ultra Naté, Jennifer Hudson, Laura Mvula and others. As 1/2 of the production and remix duo 808 BEACH, John has collaborated with the likes of Lizzo, Billy Porter, Erasure and Macy Gray to name a few. With a slew of releases and original productions on deck, John “J-C” Carr is the quiet architect behind so many of your favorite club hits and bangers.
